This illustrates just how you are supposed to manage your rented referrals. Always increase, never decrease.

I finally got things under control after a couple of weeks of losing ground. So I was able to rent referrals this week and go up in my numbers and without having to take money out of my pocket. That’s a good week.

My Small Neobux Dilemma

A second thing that made it interesting this week is the fact that I missed a day. I usually do my ad views between 10 p.m. and midnight. No particular reason. That’s just the best time for me. But if you don’t view ads on any given day then you don’t get credit for any of your referral activity the next day. So I had one day where I lost my earnings due to that missed day. No big deal, but a kind of a deal.

It did lead to a small dilemma, however. Yesterday was my seventh day since the last referral rental. That meant I was entitled to another rental period, but I considered waiting I day. I chose not to.

The reason I chose not to wait another day to rent referrals is because I was due to lose 18 referrals today. That would surely have set me back aways. As it was, I went up above where I started last week before ending up lower at the end of today. I can live with that. If I had done it the other way around then I’d have gone down by 18 before going back up 70.

It would have paid off if I’d have been able to rent 100 referrals today instead of 70 yesterday. However, that wasn’t going to happen. 492-18+100=574. That’s what I’d have ended up with if I could have rented 100 referrals today. But I’d have had to make about $7 in earnings in a 24-hour period for that to have happened. But my earnings have only been in the $3 earnings range since I’ve hit the 500 rental referral mark. I would have had to invest $5 out of my own pocket to rent 100 referrals today and I didn’t want to do that just for an increase of 12 rented referrals (562 currently as opposed to 574 potentially).

These are the types of decisions you have to make when you play with Neobux.

A Hanging Referral

The third incident that made this week interesting is my personal ad viewing last night. Since I had already viewed ads for the day, I needed to wait until after midnight before I started any other views. However, I had 10 ads to view at server reset time last night (10:14 p.m. EST).

What happened is this: After missing a day earlier in the week I moved to a morning ad view schedule. The next day I got up and viewed my ads first thing in the morning. Now I’m on an A.M. schedule instead of a P.M. schedule.

The only problem with being on an A.M. schedule is if I forget to view ads during the day then I’ve got to do it after 10 p.m. and that means I lose 9 ad views because of the server reset. Not good, but it’s not a business killer either. So what I did last night is view one ad and let the others ride till morning.

Why did I do that? Because if you don’t view an ad when you have it then there is a chance that Neobux will give it to someone else. Unfortunately for me, I viewed the wrong ad.

I’ve noticed that Neobux tends to show the same ads over and over again every day unless they get a new advertiser. I viewed one of my ads last night after 10 p.m., but it was an ad that I see every day. This morning there was an that was there last night that disappeared because I didn’t look at it last night. So I only had 8 ads to view this morning. That means I have to find another ad to view during the day or wait until after 10 p.m. tonight and view one of tomorrow’s ads. If you don’t view 9 ads in a day as a Golden Neobux member then you don’t get credit for the next day’s referral activity.

Is that a disaster? No, not really. At some point, if I go this way a few days, I’ll find an extra ad during the day. Since today is Saturday on Labor Day weekend I have plans so it won’t likely be today.

At any rate, things are looking up for me on Neobux this week. It was an interesting week, but no huge obstacles that I can’t overcome.

How I Solved My Neobux Dilemma

In the previously mentioned blog post I discussed two possibilities with regard to my next referral rental, which took place last night. When it came time to rent more referrals, I was at $17 plus some change in my Neobux account. I needed $21 to rent 100 referrals. I decided not to do that because based on my daily average earnings after necessary investments I have to wait two days to make the rental. I reasoned it is better to rent fewer today than to wait and rent more later. Here’s why.

Each day you wait you lose more referrals. I’ve been losing from 5 to 20 referrals each night on recidivism. That is, unproductive referrals that aren’t worth renewing. I just let them expire.

Referral recidivism costs money. First, I have to pay .02 for each referral that expires. Plus, those referrals aren’t active enough to maintain a minimum level of productivity to remain profitable for me. No profit means a loss of earnings. Plain and simple.

Since I had lost over 100 referrals in the last week and found myself down below the 500 referral mark again, I needed to get those numbers back up. Plus, and this is a very important principle, the more referrals on the roster then the more likely I am to get more ad views and therefore more earnings. Again, plain and simple.

This is the bird-in-the-hand-is-worth-two-in-the-bush principle. You are better off renting 3 or 10 or 20 or 70 today than waiting and renting more tomorrow or the next day.

Something Else I Did Last Night

In addition to renting referrals last night, I decided to take advantage of the new Neobux referral schedule. The first step to that was to lower my minimum required ad views for referral productivity from 1 ad view per day on average to .9 ad views per day on average.

Based on the numbers I decided that each referral needed to have a minimum of .7 ad views per day to stay profitable. But if I rent all referrals for 30 days then history has shown that referrals are likely to fall below that by the end of the month, especially if they start out the month with less than 1 ad view per day. The historical pattern for me has been for rented referrals to lose interest over time and view ads less and less often. Productivity declines over time.

However, as an aside, I’m learning that rented referrals have distinct individual ad viewing habits so I admit that I need to spend some time studying these and analyzing them for best practices.

Nevertheless, based on the above-mentioned historical patterns and the new Neobux changes, I went ahead and lowered my standards. What that did was widen my pool of rented referral renewals. Last night I was able to renew 11 referrals for 15 days each.

Why 15 Days?

The importance of 15 days cannot be overstated. The cost to rent 1 referral for that length of time is 11 cents. So I saved a lot of money by doing it that way. Previously, I’d have rented them for 30 days because that would have been the least amount of time I could have rented for according to Neobux’s rental policy. At 21 cents per referral for that 30-day time period, it would have cost me $2.31. As it was, it cost just $1.21.

This rate is a full half penny and a half difference over a 15-day period. That’s not a lot but when you figure that over multiple referrals, it can add up.

The night before last I actually did rent a referral for a longer period of time. I rented 1 referral for 90 days and 4 referrals for 15 days. I decided not to do that every night at this stage as a Neobux member because I need to preserve some of my earnings for renting new referrals.

Tonight, I renewed 2 referrals for 15 days and 2 referrals for 30 days. I think 30 days is the max that I want to go until I become more profitable.

Where Do Neobux And I Go From Here?

So what’s next? Honestly, I’m not sure. I have two goals.

• First, increase my number of referrals overall and become more profitable.
• Keep my costs down.

The challenge will be to realize both of these goals on a week by week basis, particularly since there are factors that are unpredictable. I can’t determine how many referrals will be productive each day. But there is one bright spot: I do not have to recycle referrals as often as I used to.

At one time I thought I needed to recycle referrals every 4 days. Based on numbers, that might have been reasonable. But now I can go up to 8 days. Tonight, for instance, I recycled 11 referrals that had not viewed any ads at all since August 19. If they had all viewed 4 ads today then that would have put them on a .5 ad view per day per average track – too low to maintain long term profitability. If they were to view 4 ads tomorrow then they’d have a daily average of .44 ad views, which is well below the profitability line. They needed to go.

By keeping referrals longer I think I won’t have to recycle as many referrals over the long term. Since I started recycling a week ago, I went from recycling 11 referrals on August 20 to recycling only 1 on August 25. I didn’t recycle any last night as a cost cutting measure, but I went back to recycling 16 tonight.

When I recycle, I look for referrals that have gone at least 8 days with no ad views and that have less than .9 ad views on average. I also recycle those with the lowest average first while keeping within a budget of less than 80 cents per day (tonight was an exception that I thought I could afford).

By maintaining the standards laid out in this blog post I hope that I’ll be able to rent 100 new referrals each week – or, at least, to rent more referrals than I lose to recidivism. The goal is to increase more than I decrease.

As you can see, the discounts start at 5% and move up to 30% at the top level. Of course, it should be noted that the profitability factor doesn’t move much based on these figures, but it does move.

One referral rented over a 15-day period costs .11. Therefore, to remain profitable that referral only needs to view 3 ads in 15 days. That’s one ad every 5 days. That same referral costs .20 over a 30-day period, meaning that it only needs to view 4 ads in 30 days to break even, 5 to profit. A 60-day rental costs .38, making 8 ad views in that time profitable. It costs .52 to rent a referral for 90 days; that means I’ll earn a profit after 12 ad views. A 150-day referral costs .79 cents to rent, making my profit mark at 16 ad views. And for 240 days I can rent one referral for $1.18. The profit line then is at 24 ad views.

I have yet to figure out just how to maximize my profits and expenses based on these numbers. I’ll have to give that some thought. But so far I’ve observed the following in the last few days:

• I have lost more than 100 rented referrals in the last 7 days
• My earnings over the last 7 days have not matched what I need to rent 100 new referrals
• Last night I was able to recycle twice as many referrals as I normally would based on the new rental schedule – that means I can keep more referrals overall
• By renting borderline referrals for 15 days instead of 30 days I am more likely to keep more money for a longer period of time and realize a higher profit
• Renting referrals for 90 days or longer takes more capital and lowers my break even point while increasing my profit margin, but it means a larger expense right up front

I am still trying to figure out how I can maximize my profit margins while keeping my expenses low. I am confident that I can keep more referrals, but I just may have to stick with renting them for 15 and 30 days at a time until I increase my profits more. Where I sit right now, I can rent 70 referrals and get back over the 500 rented referral mark, at which time I can implement a new referral renewal and recycling strategy, or I can wait until I have enough in my account to rent 100 referrals. Meanwhile, I’ll continue losing a few referrals each day.

I think the best course of action is, tonight, to rent 70 referrals and figure out a way to maximize my referral rentals so that I don’t overspend while still maintaining my productive referrals. I’ll have to figure out how I’m going to use Neobux’s flagging system to keep track of the length of time that referrals are being rented for. I’ll keep you posted on this.

The first week of not recycling referrals was not bad. I rented 100 referrals and lost fewer. I went up. I suspected that there might be a time when that wasn’t true. And this week is it.

For the past two weeks I’ve only been able to rent 70 referrals. Even though I’ve had the earnings to justify renting 100 both weeks, Neobux only had 70 available. That’s disappointing, but that’s just the way it is.

Last week I lost only 50 referrals or so. So I went up again. But this week I lost over 80 referrals. That means I was set back by 10. I went down to 499 referrals after being over 600. I started the week at 581. And I am currently a full day behind schedule to rent more. I have been unable to do so at my appointed time so I’m behind. Meanwhile, I have a few more referrals expiring here and there. I hope I’ll be able to rent more referrals this evening, but since my wife and I are leaving tonight to go out of town, that might not be possible. I could fall behind again.

To top it off, I counted how many referrals I’m expected to lose in the next week. The number is over 100. So even if I am able to rent referrals tonight and rent 100 of them, I’m still going to lose ground by the end of the week. Disappointing.

Since I know I can earn $21 each week without renting referrals and I know that if I do rent referrals then I can expect to earn a little more, it seems to reason that there is an optimal number of referrals I can recycle each week and stay profitable. I’m estimating about 71 cents worth.

I Just Recyled 11 Referrals

For the first time in three weeks I went ahead and recycled 11 referrals. I’ve been renewing referrals every night, but not recycling. Tonight I recycled 11 referrals. It cost me 77 cents.

I don’t expect an immediate turn around, but if I take a look at my nonproductive referrals each night and recycle those that are not active enough – up to 70 or 80 cents – then I think I can still keep it above water. The ultimate goal, of course, is to start cashing out Neobux dollars.

Originally, IMCrew was supposed to launch on August 5. Then they extended their pre-launch phase to August 12. No problem, that happens. But it is now August 18 and there has been no new word from IMCrew. That doesn’t look good.

On the surface, the “get paid to read articles” idea seemed a little pie-in-the-sky. But since it didn’t cost anything to join IMCrew, I figured I’d try it out just to see what happens. I often try out new sites like this just to see if someone comes up with something new and different that pays off. In IMCrew’s case, it seems that the idea has petered out.

But that doesn’t mean the rest of us couldn’t learn from IMCrew’s mistake. Here are some lesson notes to use on your next website launch:

• Make sure you cover all your bases in your planning phase. If you cover all contingencies then you are less likely to need to reschedule your launch.
• If you do need to extend your pre-launch phase, make sure you communicate with your affiliates by e-mail as well as by back-end interface. Not everyone will sign in to their account every day. IMCrew could still have affiliates who aren’t aware that they haven’t launched because they’ve never signed into their accounts after the initial sign up. Besides, by communicating on a daily basis, you can encourage afiliates to continue promoting you and signing into their accounts every day.
• Don’t leave people hanging. It is now August 18 and they were supposed to launch on August 12, yet I’ve heard nothing from them since August 5 when they extended their pre-launch phase.
• Never, never, never leave an old date on your public face. This smacks of a lack of professionalism like nothing else. I still have links from old posts pointing to this website. IMCrew will likely not get any more signups because their website still says launch date is August 12, which is past due. Who’s going to trust them now?
• Include a Contact Us page on your launch site. I went up to send a query to IMCrew to see if we might expect some information soon, another extension of the pre-launch phase – or anything – and there is no way to communicate with them. They don’t have a Contact Us page. Make it easy for your affiliates to contact you.

At this point I’d say that IMCrew is dead. It’s possibly a scam. It could have been a come on to get people’s e-mail addresses so that the owners could send them spam for another offer. I wouldn’t rule that out of the possibilities. On the other hand, for lack of evidence I can’t say for sure. I do know this: It doesn’t look good for IMCrew.

So what’s that mean, exactly?

It means that I am making money on something that many Internet marketers have said were a scam, a waste of time or a total failure. In 7 days, since my last referral rental, I earned a total of $23.379. That’s with 570 rented referrals starting out and 530 ending up. Let’s see, if I had 1,000 rented referrals then that would be over $46 per week. Multiply that by 4 and my monthly income would be $187-plus, and here’s the best part: For 10 minutes of work each day!

How Long Will It Take To Reach 1,000 Rented Referrals?

If I can rent 100 referrals every 7 days then I should hit my 1,000 rented referrals in 1 month. If I can rent 50 referrals every 7 days then I’ll hit 1,000 rented referrals in 2 months. Last week and this week I rented 70 referrals each.

I really wanted to rent 100 referrals both times. I had budgeted the $21 for it. But Neobux only had 70 referrals available each time. That means I should hit 1,000 rented referrals in about 6 weeks if I keep renting 70 referrals at a time. Maybe 7 weeks, tops.

Neobux Is All Downhill From Here

I like reading about these new Neobux members who write on their blogs how excited they are to get their first payout of $2. That’s nothing, Baby! I’ve spent over $700 on rented referrals since joining Neobux. A good deal of that is money I’ve earned and reinvested instead of cashing out. I highly recommend cashing out until you can consistently cash out $100 or more at a time.

In order to get to the $100 cash out level you have to have thousands of referrals working for you every day. They will earn you money. If you are renting referrals, like I am, then you have to factor in your costs. If it costs me $15-$21 each week to rent referrals then I need to earn at least that much each week to stay profitable. So far, that’s what I’m doing.

But what do I need to earn to cash out $100 on a regular basis? I need to net $25 per week. That’s $25 over and above my investment.

Let’s say my investment, after AutoPay, is $14.70 – for 70 rented referrals. Call it $15 even. I need to earn a total of $40 each week in order to have $25 left in the kitty and cash out $100 at the end of the month. How many referrals do I need to do that?

If I can expect to earn $3 over and above my investments for each 500 referrals I have then I’ll need 8.33 times that number to meet the $25 per week goal. That’s 4,165 referrals. In other words, my goal right now should be – and it is – to build up my Neobux army to 4,000 referrals. I’d like you to be among them. Won’t you join me on Neobux today?

I decided not to spend any money at all recycling rented referrals. After making that decision I started the week with $3.878 in my account. I knew I would need $21.00 in seven days to rent 100 new referrals. Anything over and above that would be pure profit. At the end of the week I had $21.74 in my account – just enough to make the rental. The image on the left illustrates my daily progress.

Notice the starting balance on July 27, 2010. The negative numbers represent my cost of renewing referrals for 30 days. Certain referrals, at the end of their 30 day rental period, met my minimum production level and warranted extension. That’s what the negative numbers represent. The column next to that tells how many referrals were renewed each day.

The positive numbers from July 28, 2010 to August 3, 2010 represent my daily earnings from all referral activity plus my own. The best day was the 24-hour period between approximately 10:30 p.m. on August 2, 2010 and the same time on August 3, 2010. It’s the last row with the date August 3, 2010 in the right column. The worst day was the period ending July 31, 2010. The second column tells how many rented referrals I had at the end of that period. My average daily earnings for the seven day period was $3.65.

What This Exercise Means To Me

This exercise represents something very important to me. It means that Neobux is certainly a profitable enterprise if you work out a system and keep diligent in working it. The system is not so much important as having one. What works for you may not work for me, and vice-versa. But it is important to develop a system.

My system is based on maintaining steady growth without spending too much money out of pocket. Until now I’ve had to spend my own money each week to rent referrals. But because I decided to see how much I could earn without that expense and to see if that would result in my being able to rent new referral easily, the experiment paid off.

Why 100 Neobux Referrals Was Out Of Reach

Last night I went up to use my $21.00 to rent 100 new referrals. But Neobux was evidently so busy that I didn’t get my chance. I never got to rent my 100 referrals because my green referral button never lit up. That meant I was going to have to wait until my selected time period today.

I got up early this morning so I could try again. At 7 a.m. sharp I was ready to click the button. But when I did so I didn’t have the 100-referral option. Neobux has only so many referrals to rent out at any one time. The most I could rent was 70. So I took what I could get.

The bright side of that disappointment is that I started the next week with more than $6.00 in my account. That means the chance of me hitting $21.00 again is pretty good. Again, I’m not going to recycle any under-performing rented referrals. I’m just going to rely on my daily earnings and try to rent another 100 referrals seven days hence.

I would have reach 600 rented referrals had I been able to rent 100 referrals last night. As it is, I now have a little more than 575 rented referrals. The trick going forward is to keep renting more referrals than I lose each week. If I continue to let 50-60 referrals expire each week and rent 70-100 new ones then I’ll keep going up. And that is the goal. It’s what will lead to further profitability as a Neobux Golden member.
